North Line Auburn Station October 1978

The pictures below were received from Steve Schaffner in March 2015.  They were taken at Auburn Station on October 17, 1978. 

The unit engine is an 8 cyclinder Nordberg.  The 2 North Line Nordberg engines (the other was at Sibley) were said to be Navy 'rejects' that Shell Pipe purchased in the 1940's. 

The other units on the line were driven by Alco 6 cylinder engines built for trains. 

All the engines were replaced with electric drivers soon after the pictures below were taken; soon after the shaft between the engine below and the speed increaser sheared and caused major damage to the engine, speed increaser and pump.
